On the topic of Mega Man 2...
Holy Shit

It's hard to tell whether this is a Mario hack or a Mega Man 2 hack - really, the point seems to be moot, because it looks like Japanese romhackers have pieced together some kind of freakish chimera of Super Mario Bros. and Mega Man 2. Plus an Air Man ga Taosenai NSF. And yeah, it seems like Air Man is considerably more difficult to Taosu as Mario!

Yeah, I've only been talking about video games for quite a while, but there's really not much else that I feel like I can, or want to, talk about. And shit kind of sucks right now, so eight-bit video games are my refuge.

Ok, I know I'm a little late to the party on this (due mainly to work)but I just got around to downloading Mega Man 9. Holy hell. I can't tell you how surreal this is... it's just so awesome to play something this good again.

It really needed a few years off for the people who grew up with the games to grow up and start getting into the industry, and if not getting into the industry then just getting wistful for those old games. With the time off, they were far enough removed from the sequel grind that they could look at it analytically and look at what really worked and what didn't, and they came up with something that could have held its own with the best games of its day and even, in most cases, could come out on top. It is just science how tight Megaman 9 is; the way they managed to wring those feelings we had playing these games as kids out of us again was beautiful.

I actually went and played through the rest of the games - well, most of the rest of the games, I got fed up with 7 by the Wily stages and felt a pure white hate for 8 - and the difference in quality between 9 and the games from 4-up is stark. I thought I hated Megaman after I trudged through the depressing, flavourless gruel that is Megaman 5, but then I bought the Endless Mode DLC and started playing 9 again and no, I just hated the mediocre design of the last bunch of games!
